This is my latest car, a 1980 MkII Ford Escort estate.
I’ve owned this MkII for several months now, after selling my 1970 Oldsmobile. I was looking for something more ‘garage-friendly’and something I could learn welding, bodywork and mechanical skills on. I had owned loads of MkI and MkII Ford Escorts in the 1980s and 90s but I had never owned an estate, so when this one came up for auction I jumped at it.
It’s a 1980 1300 Ford Escort GL estate in Frozen White – the car was originally Green Jade metallic, which is fairly rare on these, and I would go back to that colour but for the interior. This is the best part of the car, as the previous owner is an upholsterer. It features Recaro front and standard back seats in red Nappa leather, along with new carpets, door and side panels.
The car has been lowered 2″ and has polished 13″ RS four spoke wheels fitted. The only other modification (for the moment) is an unleaded head on the standard 1300cc motor.
I am carrying out some mods on the car, including smoothing the tailgate and fitting a solenoid lock to it, removing the rear pillar vents, fitting round ‘angel eyes’ headlights to it and probably going for front quarter bumpers fairly soon.
